Beyonc has been crowned the greatest pop star of the 21st century by Billboard as the first quarter of it comes to a close. The publication debuted their staff-chosen top pick this week after counting down from 25, putting Taylor Swift at No. 2 despite noting she's "the century's biggest pop star by the numbers." "Few artists this period can match her in any of the most critical basic categories of pop stardom - commercial success, performance abilities, critical acclaim and accolades, industry influence, iconic cultural moments - and absolutely no one can equal her in all of them," Billboard said of Bey. "Even Taylor Swift, the lone artist who really challenged Beyonc for the top spot on these rankings - and who does have a clear statistical lead on Bey in many key categories... - simply hasn't been around for long enough to be able to match the expansiveness of her quarter-century of dominance." Of her many accolades since the 21st century began, Bey has 12 No. 1 singles, 10 No. 1 albums, 32 top 10 singles and is the most-awarded artist in Grammy history with 32 trophies - and likely more to come as she's nominated 11 times for the forthcoming 2025 Grammy Awards. A testament to her greatness, it was recently announced that fans at Yale University will be able to take a course about the singer titled 'Beyonc Makes History' in the Spring 2025 semester. Professor of African American Studies and Music Daphne Brooks will teach the class, which according to a report from the Yale Daily News "will examine Beyonc 's artistic work from 2013 to 2024 as a lens to study Black history, intellectual thought and performance." The class is a spinoff of Brooks' prior course at Princeton University, 'Black Women in Popular Music Culture.' "Those classes were always overenrolled," she said. "And there was so much energy around the focus on Beyonc , even though it was a class that starts in the late 19th century and moves through the present day. I always thought I should come back to focusing on her and centering her work pedagogically at some point." ?? RELATED NEWS GLORILLA BROKE DOWN IN TEARS WHEN SHE MET BEYONC : 'I REALLY LOVE HER THAT BAD' OCTOBER 19, 2024 The course explores Beyonc 's music, fashion and visual media from her 2013 self-titled album to 2024's Cowboy Carter, while examining the diverse experiences of Black women in media and politics. Students will discuss scholarly readings, participate in visual album screenings, work with archives at the Beinecke Library, engage in public humanities projects and create playlists linking Beyonc 's music to her influences. Brooks added: "[This class] seemed good to teach because [Beyonc ] is just so ripe for teaching at this moment in time. The number of breakthroughs and innovations she's executed and the way she's interwoven history and politics and really granular engagements with Black cultural life into her performance aesthetics and her utilization of her voice as a portal to think about history and politics - there's just no one like her. The rock icon and Hole frontwoman shared her thoughts about Lamar with The Standard in a new interview. When she was asked about artists she would like to collaborate with, she mentioned the Compton rapper. "I would love to work with Kendrick Lamar; I have a mad crush on him," she said. Later in the discussion, she went on to say that she considers K.Dot "undoubtedly the best hip-hop writer ever; his flow is beautiful and his lyrics thoughtful." "Kendrick - if you're reading this - did you listen to Leonard Cohen or Bowie growing up? Because it sounds like it!" she continued. "Plus, political-era Bob Dylan? The 21-city arena tour kicks off on April 19 in Minneapolis, MN and wraps up on June 18 in Landover, MD, with stops in cities such as Houston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Chicago along the way. The roadshow will also swing through Kendrick's native Los Angeles and SZA's birthplace of St. Louis, as well as the hometown of Kendrick's fierce rival Drake, Toronto. Presale for the Grand National Tour begins on Wednesday (December 4) at 10 a.m. via Cash App, while general tickets go on sale at the same time on Friday (December 6) through the tour's official website. The trial was the longest in Georgia history. The jury selection process took ten months, and the trial proper began just over a year ago. Speaking on X Spaces on Wednesday (November 27), the Bronx bombshell began by explaining how her relationship with money was shaped by growing up around drug dealers, who blew all of their illicit earnings instead of making smart investments. However, watching them did give Cardi a "hustler mentality" which has powered her to fame and fortune. "Every four months, I get a big fat check off of all the songs that I've dropped," she said. "Um hmmm. Everybody that was involved with the album, we all get a nice check. So I still get paid from my music alone. "Music is my biggest revenue. I get paid $1.5 million to do shows in America. And it depends on the venue, because if the venue's big, I gotta get $2 million. If I'm going out of the state, I'm getting $2.5 [million]. If people are giving me money to promote something, I'm gonna take the money." The "WAP" hitmaker then turned her attention to her eye-watering outgoings, saying: "There are bills and something to be paid every single fucking day. Even if I don't step out of the house, there are bills to pay." Cardi proceeded to list off some of her many expenditures, including a cleaning service at her home, 24-hour security, a round-the-clock car service, a nanny who is paid $3,500 (presumably per week) to look after her 6-year-old daughter Kulture and another nanny who charges $700 per day to look after her two-month-old baby. The mother-of-three also employs a full-time house manager and spends upwards of $5,000 on hair and makeup and at least $8,000 on outfits "just so I can step out the house. Cardi further revealed that she recently spent $50,000 on Christmas decorations alone and splurged $2 million on herself in October - including almost $300,000 on jewelry from Elliot Eliantte - "because I'm divorced, I'm single and shopping makes me feel good." The 32-year-old doesn't just spend money on herself or her home, though; she said she also financially supports friends and family, including coughing up $30,000 to bail a friend out of jail and retain a lawyer for them. She also said she's currently looking to hire an attorney for another friend. "But you know what? Those are my friends. I love them. I love to help out, all the time," she said, before adding: "I'm an expensive bitch!" Cardi B previously addressed her financial health in an interview with Complex earlier this year, in which she was quizzed about her reported $80 million net worth. In her bashful response, Bardi didn't reveal a specific digit but confirmed that the figure wasn't far off. "Uh, Jesus Christ," she said. "I made a lot of money! Cole has recalled the moment that he finally won over JAY-Z. The Dreamville rapper may be part of Hip Hop's "Big Three" alongside Drake and Kendrick Lamar, but rewind 15 years and he was a hungry young rookie looking to not only cement his place in the rap game but earn the approval of his Roc Nation label boss, Hov. Throughout his recently launched audio series Inevitable, Cole has spoken at length about his somewhat complicated relationship with the rap legend, to whom he signed in early 2009, and his early struggles to be taken seriously. But all that changed in September 2010 when he dropped "Villematic," an emphatic freestyle over Kanye West's "Devil in a New Dress." As Cole explained in the latest episode of the 10-part series, the much-loved track received an uncharacteristically enthusiastic response from JAY-Z, who is an otherwise notoriously tough critic. "The reaction that I got from Jay on this song - he didn't hit me or nothing, but we were at that Yankee Stadium show [with Eminem]," he said. "You have to understand at this time, yeah, I was signed to Jay but it wasn't like Jay is my man. Nah, seeing Jay was a rare occasion. "I always was like, 'This is somebody I idolize and really respect, but I still want to do it on my own.' I wanted [him to look at me] as a peer [rather than as a little brother]." Cole's longtime manager and Inevitable co-host Ibrahim "Ib" Hamad chimed in: "Around that time there was the joke, There's no picture of Cole and Jay. Jay don't fuck with Cole. Which is funny, but the reality was you made it a point to be like, 'I'm not gonna bother this n-gga.'" Cole then recalled being backstage at the concert and bumping into Hov: "I see Jay coming out of the artist lounge where friends and family be at and he was like, 'Cole! Yo, n-gga!' "I'll never forget it 'cause he said it like this: 'That 'Villematic'?!' He called it 'Vill-er-matic' [laughs]. He said, 'Woo! That's my favorite joint I ever heard from you.' That was a moment for me." The song wound up on the mixtape Friday Night Lights, which J. Cole released for free two months later and took his career to the next level, setting the stage for his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story (which would arrive the following year). Adding to the nostalgia of Inevitable, Friday Night Lights was released on streaming services for the first time on Wednesday (November 27), following previous projects The Come Up and The Warm Up. ??
