Ice Cube Learned How To Cry From Cuba Gooding Jr.

Ice Cube, a rap legend who successfully ventured into acting, faced a unique challenge while filming Boys N The Hood-connecting with his emotions. In a surprising twist, he sought guidance from his co-star, Cuba Gooding Jr., who was known for his emotional performances. During a recent episode of Patrick Bet-David's PBD Podcast, Gooding Jr. shared an anecdote from the set of Boyz N The Hood, where Cube openly admitted his struggle to shed tears for a scene.

Boys N The Hood was an extremely influential film. It was directed by John Singelton and starred Ice Cube, Cuba Gooding Jr., Morris Chestnut, and Nia Long, among others. Cube was at the heights of his rap career and transitioned to acting seamlessly in his role as Doughboy. Ice Cube apparently sought help from his co-stars to learn how to act. When it was time for Cube to get emotional and tear up on screen, he turned to Cuba Gooding Jr.

"He knocked on my trailer. He sat in there and said, 'I can't do this crying shit. I'm not built like that,'" said Cuba Gooding Jr., who played Ice Cube's childhood friend. "I said, 'What do you mean?' Now I'm his acting coach. I got Ice Cube asking me for help 'cause he's gotta cry in this scene where I say to him, 'You only got one brother left.' He continued saying, "I said, 'Cube, the only advice I can give you is, if you're trying to cry, you're gonna look stupid. Just say whatever you feel when you think about the homies you lost.' He looked at me and walked out."

Cuba also shared a tidbit about shooting the actual scene with Ice Cube. He said, "We did the scene and you seen him. I don't remember any tears, but I'm not supposed to cry during that scene and I'm trying to hold it back." Gooding Jr. concluded, "It was magic for these two kids who connected because now he wasn't scared. It doesn't matter if he cries 'cause he's not supposed to cry. The grief is in his face." Overall, Cuba and Ice Cube shared one of the most memorable scenes ever together.

Chance The Rapper is officially back. While the rapper has released a handful of singles in the past few years he seems to be finally gearing up to drop the long-awaited follow-up to his critically maligned 2019 album The Big Day. He revealed that the album is called Star Line and while details are sparse at the moment fans are mostly just happy to have something to look forward to again. The presumed first single from the record dropped last week and Chance didn't waste any time teasing his next release.

Much like he did with his previous single Chance took to Instagram to drop a teaser for the new song in advance of its release. The track is called "Together" and the teaser also includes the reveal that DJ Premier handled production on the song. In the caption he said "next week: #starline." That caused fans to go on a full on frenzy in the comments. They repeatedly ask if the entire album is dropping next week. But it looks like it'll just be the next single. Elsewhere in the comments fans are hyping up both this release and its predecessor. Check out the preview he shared below.

Last month, Chance dropped his new single "Buried Alive." The short, lyric-oriented song saw Chance explaining his feelings on fan reactions to The Big Day and being counted out by many rap fans. The track was met with overwhelming positivity from those excited to hear Chance showing off his rap skills once again. The reveal that DJ Premier worked on the newest song has fans thinking Chance may have been previously teasing potential collaborators. If that's true, Lil Yachty, Lil Wayne, and Vic Mensa could all also appear on the forthcoming project.

What do you think of the preview of new DJ Premier-produced music that Chance The Rapper shared to Instagram? Are you looking forward to the release of his new album Star Line whenever it finally releases? Let us know in the comment section below.

Tha Dogg Pound Talks New Album "We All We Got" And Weighs In On Drake Vs. Kendrick Lamar
Kurupt & Daz Dillinger

You can't have a conversation about West Coast Hip-Hop without mentioning Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound. In fact, they serve as the pioneers who paved the way for gangsta rap, especially on this side of the country. Back in the day, if you saw Snoop Dogg, you saw Kurupt and Daz Dillinger with him. The Hip-Hop duo was first featured on Snoop's debut solo album, Doggystyle, in the song "For All My N****z & Bitchez"... and it's been up ever since. And with Doggystyle being released over three decades ago, fans have been wondering: will we ever see another Dogg Pound album?

With Snoop being the marketing genius he is, he had to capitalize on the moment. The trio recently shook up the rap game by dropping their single and visual to "Smoke Up," with a montage of celebrity cameos asking: "what's up with Tha Dogg Pound? I heard they broke up." Everyone including Ray J, Xzibit, Tyrese Gibson, Flavor Flav, NLE Choppa, and Druski joined in on the festivities. "Smoke Up" serves as the first single off Tha Dogg Pound's forthcoming album titled We All We Got. The project is executive produced by Snoop Dogg, dropping on May 31st.

HotNewHipHop had the opportunity to chat with Daz Dillinger and Kurupt at their private album listening session at Snoop's compound in Inglewood, California.

"Smoke Up" is going crazy. What're you most excited for and why?

Daz Dillinger: Everybody to share their weed and smoke up. [laughs]

Kurupt: I'm excited to see what people's reaction is to this great music that we're finna to give to them. To get on our page, and it's bonafide West Coast shit.

Why We All We Got? Explain that title.

Kurupt: Because that's real. We all we got.

Daz Dillinger: We all we got. Look at your family. You got your mother, father. They're still here, right? See, we don't have our moms. And Del Mar doesn't have his father. Me and Snoopy still have ours, so we all we got. What else do we get? Besides us. Through our 30 semi venture year venture in this game, Delmar and Snoop - shit, since they were kids. We All We Got is self-explanatory.

What was the best memory from creating this album?

Kurupt: When I came in the studio, I didn't know Daz was gonna be there. I talked to Daz, trying to get his mind right. I talked to Snoop, trying to get his mind right. They both was doing their family shit, so ain't too much I can do. The next thing you know, I walked in the studio in and Delmar's there. I walk in with Snoop and Daz is there. I'm like oh shit, you motherfuckers think y'all slick? Good job. That was the greatest thing ever.

Daz Dillinger: He's been smiling ever since. [laughs]

Kurupt: Ever since.

What about you Daz?

Daz Dillinger: Digging in Snoop's weed bag again. Half ounce. Sack got bigger.

Kurupt: Did you just tell on yourself?

Daz Dillinger: He don't give a damn. He's happy I'm back. Have it all.

Snoop executive produced the album, how smoked out were those sessions?

Daz Dillinger: It was pretty smoke-aful.

Kurupt: Oh yeah, it was smoke-aful.

How do y'all feel about the Kendrick versus Drake beef?

Daz Dillinger: That's Kurupt, that's his little kid right there.

Kurupt: He's grown, but that is my killer.

Daz Dillinger: He's a grown kid.

Who, Kendrick?

Kurupt: Hell yeah.

Daz Dillinger: He said the KDot stands for Kurupt. [laughs]

Kurupt: I just found out about the situation a couple of days ago. I listened to one of Kendrick's records that they played for me, then my nephew MarMar Oso that night played me Drake's. I heard that one like damn, they both bussin' though. See, 'cause they both my friends. Except, Drake's my favorite artist.

Damn, for real?

Kurupt: Hell yeah, I tell everybody in every interview. They say "who ya favorite artist?" Drake, because his style man. He's all over the place with his shit. He could give you melodies to your heart ass, he can give you this mic. He's everywhere. And when he gives you the mic, he's Trump tight on it. He's got rhymes. But Kendrick is my killer, see? So it's awkward. It's like ah.

I don't know how they got into it, but I hope people didn't forget about KDot. The Kendrick thing, maybe they got it confused. Kendrick Lamar. That's like me calling myself Ricardo Brown, but they forget about Kurupt Young Gotti. See, they forget about Kurupt. Well, I got three spectrums. Ricardo Brown, I could make that work. Then there's Kurupt, then there's Gotti.

Daz Dillinger: Kurupt the Kingpin.

Kurupt: People must have forgotten about KDot or something, because why would you want to feud with this guy? This guy is a beast. This kid, he got the key to the city. From murder though. Not because he's a great artist, he got it from the mic. War. I'm just like ah. I don't know enough to really give up an opinion.

What about you Daz?

Daz Dillinger: I love it all, ain't nobody got killed.

Are things going too far?

Daz Dillinger: Ummm, if they never see each other. They can keep it on wax. LL Cool J and Ice T did.

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA - SEPTEMBER 30: Kurupt (L) and Daz Dillinger of Tha Dogg Pound perform during "Today Was a Good Day!" at Stockton Arena on September 30, 2023 in Stockton, California. (Photo by Tim Mosenfelder/Getty Images)

Who do you believe is winning?

Daz Dillinger: KDot. Because every n*gga in the hood banging and dancing. Drake's shit in the club, but Kendrick's shit in the street. A lot of n*ggas in the streets can't get to the club, so we in the street.

Do you believe it will continue?

Daz Dillinger: I thought Drake pulled out the white flag. It's wearing him out.

Best song from the battle overall?

Daz Dillinger: Kendrick rapped about what, eight minutes or something? [laughs]

Kurupt: Was that Kendrick or was that Drake?

Daz Dillinger: Both of them, shit. They did about nine minutes a piece.

Kurupt: I'm such an old man. I'm so out of touch.

How does this beef today compared to when you guys were coming up?

Daz Dillinger: It don't. It don't compare. Ain't no ambulance being called.

Both: [laughs]

Anything we should know about We All We Got?

Daz Dillinger: May 31st, Daz and Kurupt. Kurupt and Daz. Snoop Dogg, Death Row Records. We here.

Recently, Pusha T's fourth studio album It's Almost Dry turned two. The project, originally released in April of 2022, was the performer's first number one of his career. For obvious reasons, fans are looking back on the iconic project in honor of the anniversary. According to him, however, they're better off bracing themselves for what's to come.

Yesterday, the Clipse star took to Twitter/X to reply to a celebratory post, revealing that he has big things coming soon. "Why reminisce?" he asked. "So much more new [fire emoji] on the way..." While it remains unclear exactly what he has in store for listeners, they have some ideas of what he could be cooking up.

Pusha T Reveals There's "So Much More" New Music On The Way

why reminisce? So much more new on the way... https://t.co/R9BRUP7Psq
— King Push (@PUSHA_T) May 10, 2024

He previously hinted at linking up with DJ Drama for his first-ever Gangsta Grillz mixtape, which was announced by Fake Shore Drive's Andrew Barber back in 2022. "I'm working on a special mixtape. To have the fun I want to have. What I'm trying to do is restore the feeling in every aspect of this subgenre of music. And just of this cloth, of this taste level," Pusha T said at the time. "I'm just trying to make people realize how viable this is. To show people that I can't do what you do, but you definitely can't do what I do. I have to show those differences. That's the whole premise behind the mixtape."

In an interview with Complex last month, he also revealed that there's a "100%" chance fans will hear new solo or Clipse music sometime this year. What do you think of Pusha T teasing new music on the second anniversary of his fourth studio album, It's Almost Dry? Are you looking forward to hearing what he's been working on? Kendrick Lamar has removed copyright from almost every other person, page, account, content channel, or reactor posting his recent Drake diss tracks online... except for one. Moreover, Elliott Wilson had taken to Twitter with an edited version of his haunting song "Meet The Grahams" without the verse claiming that Drizzy has a secret daughter. Then, he expressed surprise when he realized that the copyright owner disabled the media on Twitter, for which people have many theories. TDE's president Punch had some words on the matter, and his statement on the edit is fueling other ideas as to why K.Dot would've wanted to take that down.

"Why would you request for it to be edited anyway? Did you ask for edits on anything else?" Punch asked Elliott Wilson, who invited him for a conversation in the replies on Twitter. Moreover, this lends credence to the speculative idea that Kendrick Lamar wants to keep the original version of the song intact because, even though his allegations are unverified, so are many of Drake's and ones on other of his own tracks. As such, Punch seems to be pointing at an apparent double standard in this beef that Wilson probably did not intend in the first place.

Punch Reacts To Elliott Wilson's Kendrick Lamar Edit

Why would you request for it to be edited anyway? Did you ask for edits on anything else? https://t.co/oEIWN2ViUz
— Punch TDE (@iamstillpunch) May 9, 2024

Regardless, the damage is there, and Kendrick Lamar and Drake seem no closer to providing proof on one another or burying the hatchet at any point in the future. Perhaps the battle isn't over yet despite what most folks are saying online, so we'll see if this changes at any point. Of course, there are people like Freddie Gibbs who rightfully concluded that the only real winners in this beef were the record labels. Maybe this scuffle over an edit also speaks to how hip-hop media was able to shift and mold this battle in their image for their own gain or benefit, but we're all complicit in that as fans.

Meanwhile, we can't help but wonder how this whole situation will age. Will we ever remember this edited version of "Meet The Grahams," and will "Not Like Us" keep its commercial staying power? No matter the case, this is going down in the history books one way or another. Kendrick Lamar and Drake went too hard, too quick, too low, and too impressively to not consider this one of the most memorable hip-hop moments of the past decade or so.

Coco Gauff is the latest of many who have taken a definitive stance in the Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake feud. Yesterday Tennis star Naomi Osaka planted her flag on Kendrick's side, stating he won the beef. Osaka also urged the rapper to drop another diss record because "Not Like Us" was so good. Now her fellow Tennis star Coco Gauff has chosen a side in the feud. Coco has chosen Kendrick Lamar as the winner, and it's for good reason.

Coco Gauff's decision to side with Kendrick Lamar over Drake is not just a matter of personal preference in music. It's a decision rooted in her personal connection to the feud. Gauff's support for Kendrick stems from Drake's repeated disses against her idol, Serena Williams. In her own words, Gauff explained, "To be honest, I liked Kendrick's songs more. And I think pretty much everyone I know is leaning towards him. But I do like Drake as an artist as well. But as far as the rap battle is going on, the rap beef, I think definitely Kendrick's winning. Also, Drake dissed Serena [Williams] so I have to go with Kendrick. Kendrick defended her, so yeah, I have to go with him."

In the song "Middle of the Ocean" from 2022, Drake referred to Williams' spouse, Alexis Ohanian, as a "groupie." Although they were never official, there were also rumors that Drake and Williams had dated in the past.  Kendrick Lamar defended his fellow Compton Native Williams on the hit diss track "Not Like Us." Kendrick rapped, "From Alondra down to Central / n**gas better not speak on Serena." Coco Gauff idolizes Serena, so her choosing Kendrick is a no-brainer.

Four-time Grand Slam title champion Naomi Osaka said of the beef, "Kendrick dropped some heat." She continued, "That last song is amazing, and I played it while walking onto the court." Popular opinion is that Kendrick Lamar has officially won the feud. Drake's last diss track did not go over like the rapper wanted. Meanwhile, Kendirk's "Not Like Us" may have become an all-time diss record. Overall, Osaka and Coco Gauff are part of the team Kendrick for good reason.

Discussion about the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef is finally starting to slow down ever so slightly. With Drake's most recent diss "The Heart Part 6" he proclaimed that he was done with the beef. It's also been a full week with no responses from the otherwise quite speedy Lamar. That's led to some rappers and members of the hip-hop media to look at the beef in its totality and try to decide who won. That's what fans wanted Freddie Gibbs to weigh in on when they asked him on Twitter, but he had a pretty surprising answer.

When a fan asked Freddie straight up who he thought won between Kendrick and Drake, he gave an alternate response. "The record labels" he responded in a quote tweet to the original question. It's a fair response given that the beef has sparked an absolutely massive flood of streams for nearly every single new track released. Both Drake and Kendrick have already had songs debut in the top 20 of the Hot 100 with "Push-Ups" and "euphoria." "euphoria" is even expected to compete for the very top spot on the chart next week. That's even without mentioning "Not Like Us. " The track is off to a hotter start than any of the songs that preceded it. Check out Freddie's response and the reactions it garnered below.

Freddie Gibbs Thinks The Labels Won Drake-Kendrick Beef

The record labels. https://t.co/AKBZzfi5bE
— Big (@FreddieGibbs) May 9, 2024

Freddie isn't completely alone in his speculation. Any time a substantial beef hits the world of hip-hop plenty of fans speculate that it could be faked. They claim that the virality of seeing some of the genre's biggest voices attacking each other causes records to sell and money to be made.

What do you think of Freddie Gibbs take on who actually won the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef? Do you believe the theories that some rap beefs are fake and assembled by labels to sell records? Let us know in the comment section below.

Central Cee's new single "CC Freestyle" contained some not-so-subtle shots at frequent rival Digga D, who took some time out of his prison stint to respond to it via an Instagram community page. Moreover, on Thursday night (May 9), he added onto his wait for a trial on drug charges by anticipating an eventual showdown with his fellow U.K. rapper. "I ain't Drake or Kendrick," Digga wrote, referencing their ongoing beef and suggesting that, if he and Cench really go at it, it's not going to be for rap beef, but rather something much more dangerous and serious. "N***as like sneak dissing in the UK," he concluded. "I shouldn't even say n***as."

Furthermore, the two drill and grime artists have a lot of built-up animosity over the years stemming from alleged criminal group ties, physical run-ins, and confrontations. For example, Digga D's entourage allegedly stabbed Central Cee's brother back in the day, something that the former even referenced in an unreleased 2021 freestyle. Here's what the Might Delete Later collaborator had to say about Digga on "CC Freestyle." "Surrender your flag because you're not no Crip / I trapped and it changed my life /You trapped and all that you got was blues."

Digga D Responds To Central Cee

"I'm a millionaire, bro, what about you?... They book me in L.A., they book you in Leicester," Central Cee also raps on the cut. As for Digga D, we know that he's never been shy about making his hectic and dangerous lifestyle evident on social media, such as him recording what seemed like a police raid on his home on Instagram Live. As such, we can't really tell where this feud will go, especially considering that one of the opponents is behind bars. Still, hopefully they keep things to the bars themselves and sharpen their pens rather than their blades.

Meanwhile, with what looks like an Ice Spice collab on the way, Central Cee is probably poised to stay relevant and representative for the U.K. hip-hop scene, with Digga D not too far behind. They might clash again in the future, but at this point, they both clearly want to handle their careers differently. Whether this leads to subliminals for the rest of their careers or a one-on-one is anyone's guess. But considering the temperature in rap music right now, all is fair in love and war.
