Future's work ethic is legendary. He dropped mixtapes every other month in the mid-2010s, and he just dropped two collab albums with Metro Boomin. You know, the ones that started the Drake and Kendrick Lamar battle. Pluto has thrown shots at the 6 God here and there, but it seemed like he was moving on from the battle to focus on new music. He got on X (formerly Twitter) and set the Freebanz fanbase on fire with two announcements. "May 10" and "Mixtape Pluto." Even those who practice Foxy Brown math know what this meant: new mixtape on May 10.

Well, it turns out 2 and 2 didn't make 4. The release date came, and there was no new tape. Instead, Future dropped a new single with Tee Grizzley titled "Swear to God." The single absolutely slaps, with Future and Grizzley swapping bars over an animated trap beat. The confusion over there being a new mixtape stemmed from the chorus of "Swear to God."

Future Quoted A Misleading Lyric From His New Single



Future warbles his way through different things he'll swear to god over, but the takeaway line is: "F*ck your album, shit ain't slapping like my mixtape." The rapper tweeted this line a few days before the song dropped, which again made it seem like he had a whole tape ready to go.

It was good promo for "Swear to God," but it was also a disappointing discovery for fans. Future hasn't dropped a solo mixtape since Purple Reign in 2016, and a collab tape since Wrld on Drugs in 2018. He's been in album mode for close to a decade, and fans wanted to hear what he sounded like with a grittier aesthetic. In Future's defense, his delivery on the new song is definitely "mixtape Pluto" in terms of feel.

Fan reactions on X were mixed. Some were disappointed that they confused the rollout of a song with a whole tape. "Who tf convinced us that future was droppin a mixtape," one user wrote. "After droppin back to back solo albums in less than a month."

Others took a more frustrated approach, and claimed the rapper did a bad job of clarifying what was coming. "Future blew my Friday already," they added. "Nobody wanted a weak single with Tee grizzley like what. We wanted a mixtape."

Gunna has spent the last few years doing damage control. He was arrested in relation to the YSL Rico indictment, and his decision to cop a plea deal led to debate over whether he was "snitch." It's a tough label to tear off once it's been applied, but the Georgia rapper has done a good job of redirecting fans back to his music. Gunna's 2023 album, A Gift & a Curse, spawned his second top 10 hit, and his latest album, One of Wun, is an attempt to bolster his credibility as an artist.

One of Wun has some Gunna's slickest album cuts to date. "whatsapp (wassam)" remains a standout, but it's a credit to the uniformly excellent production that it sounds right at home. "collage" and "neck on a yacht" are braggadocios cuts that further the opulent, unhurried tone of the album as a whole. Gunna has more confidence than ever when it comes to finding catchy, unique rhyming pockets, and it shows. "On one tonight" and "still prevail" are low on substance but high on style. Frankly, that's where Gunna excels.

Gunna Goes For a More Stylish, Relaxed Sound





One of Wun is surprisingly light on features, though it actually plays to the album's benefit. It's a breath of fresh air when Normami and Leon Bridges show up on "$$$" and "clear my rain," respectively. Gunna does surprisingly well on these more soulful cuts. Offset and Roddy Ricch provide the only guest verses, and the former absolutely steals the show on "prada dem." It's probably still the best song on the album. The biggest knock against One of Wun is that it's too long. It's 20 songs, and even on first listen, you can pick out tracks that could've been cut. There's a better album within the finished product we got.

Kendrick Lamar is standing by what he said. "Meet the Grahams" was one of the most devastating diss songs ever put out. Over a haunting Alchemist beat, Lamar laid into his opponent, Drake, and laid out all the reasons why the Toronto rapper is a phony. He addressed Drake's son and both his parents, but the biggest revelation came in the song's third verse. Lamar addressed an unnamed daughter, claiming the rapper has an 11-year-old that he has neglected to raise since rising to fame. It was a shocking moment, and one that's been examined with a lot of scrutiny.

Many claim Lamar is making the daughter up. Some have even posited that Drake fed the rapper's camp bad information in an attempt to bait him. There's been no evidence to prove either theory. Fans have to decide what the truth is for themselves.

Some are so put off by the so-called "lie" Lamar told that they went the extra mile and took the third verse out of "Meet the Grahams." Rap Radar's Elliot Wilson posted an edited version of the song on May 8. Lamar was not a fan of this change, however.

The rapper filed a copyright violation against the edited version of "Meet the Grahams." It was quickly taken down from social media platforms. Punch, Lamar's former label mate at Top Dawg Entertainment, criticized the very concept of the edited version. He reposted Wilson's tweet with a rhetorical question for the journalist. "Why would you request for it to be edited anyway," he asked. "Did you ask for edits on anything else?"

Kendrick Lamar's decision to take down the edited "Meet the Grahams" was no accident. The rapper has been very hands-on with song rollout over the last few months. He removed the copyrights for his Drake disses, meaning content creators who review "Meet the Grahams" or "Not Like Us" can profit from their videos. This was an unprecedented move, and one that earned Lamar lots of praise from online creators. It's obvious the censoring of his work is not something he's willing to tolerate, however.

The version of "Meet the Grahams" without mention of Drake's daughter is no more. All that remains is the rapper's original, brutal version.

Drake is the rap kingpin of Toronto. His moniker "6 God" is literally in reference to the city's area code. Things have been dicey for Drake in the city, however, since he became embroiled in the Kendrick Lamar battle. His OVO store was vandalized with the title of Lamar's latest diss, and a shooting led to a member of his security being shot in the chest. The misfortune continued on May 9. According to TMZ, the rapper was paid a visit by an unidentified trespasser.

The Toronto Police Department told TMZ they received a call around 3:30 pm ET on Thursday. The caller stated that a trespasser was walking around Drake's property. The trespasser was arguing with Drake's security by the time police arrived on the scene. It's unclear what transpired between the trespasser and the rapper's security. The former was, however, subsequently taken to the hospital. The information lines up with reports from earlier in the day, which stated that an ambulance was spotted near the rapper's mansion. The trespasser has not been identified.

It's the second time in two days this bizarre interaction has taken place. On May 8, a different trespasser approached the front gate of Drake's estate. Police subsequently detained the man. The rapper has not issued a statement regarding either incident. He has, however, talked about the issue of gun violence as it pertains to Toronto.

Drake appeared in the 2019 documentary Remember Me, Toronto to assert that he was firmly against it. He also spoke on how his fame makes him a target, and the difficulty he has balancing that with a desire to give back to the community.

"It's a daunting path to try and be the biggest and baddest from your ends," he explained. "It's just way more impactful if you put all that energy into a grind that people remember you and say, 'I remember that guy came around and gave us all a chance.' Those are the people who get the glory story." Hopefully the trend of trespassers at the rapper's home doesn't continue.

The more tragic relationship, however, has been between Benzino and his daughter, Coi Leray. Leray's announcement was made via X (formerly Twitter) on May 1. She made it crystal clear that she will no longer have Benzino in her life. The whole thing is surreal to me... I'm a smart guy but I can't figure this one out." Benzino went on to interpret Leray's side of the story, and posit a reason why she has decided to go silent. "Coi is a young lady, she independent," he explained. This young generation, they don't want their parents interfering with their lives man."

Benzino's account became even more heartbreaking when he revealed that he's on the outs with some of his other kids as well. "I have to learn to adapt to that and respect that," he added.
