Abi Carter Wins 'American Idol' 2024

Take a bow Abi Carter.

The 21-year-old Indio, CA native wins the 2024 edition of American Idol, joining a list of previous champs that includes Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Carrie Underwood.

Carter held her nerve during Sunday night’s three-hour finale, winning ahead of Jack Blocker, a 25-year-old from Dallas, TX, and Will Moseley, a 23-year-old from Hazelhurst, GA.

The budding musicians performed “Bed of Roses” by Jon Bon Jovi, “Somewhere” from “West Side Story”, “River” (with Bishop Briggs) and the original song “This Isn’t Over”.

It sure wasn’t over. When America voted, Carter came out on top.

Carter reigned on a season 22 finale that saw Rock And Roll Hall of Famer Jon Bon Jovi participate as guest mentor, plus special performances from Nick Fradiani, New Kids On The Block, Jason Mraz, Hootie And The Blowfish, Cece Winans, James Bay, Wynonna Judd, Seal, Bishop Briggs and Cody Johnson.

Speaker to Billboard when the top 10 was announced, Carter said, “I want to be an artist. I’ve never felt so passionately about something. I went to school and got a psychology degree because I figured if I can’t express my emotions through something artistically, maybe I can just help other people express their emotions. I was going to be a family therapist.”

As one Idol is crowned, one queen of the reality TV show departs — Katy Perry. The U.S. pop superstar completes her stint on the panel, and has announced that her future plans include new music.

Billie Eilish performs with Labrinth

Zayn‘s Room Under the Stairs tops this week’s new music poll.

Friday Music Guide: New Music From Billie Eilish, Zayn, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie and More
05/17/2024

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (May 17) on Billboard, choosing the star’s latest album as their favorite new music release of the past week.

The former One Direction singer’s latest studio album brought in more than 47% of the vote, topping Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft by only 3%. In a week full of fresh tunes across pop, country and hip-hop, poll voters selected Room Under the Stairs over new music releases by Eilish, Saweetie, Luke Combs and A Boogie With da Hoodie.

Recorded at Zayn’s home in rural Pennsylvania and produced by Dave Cobb, Room Under the Stairs is the singer’s fourth solo album and the follow-up to 2021’s Nobody Is Listening. With a shift from pop to R&B mixed with country-rock influence, Zayn’s rootsy new set is led by single “What I Am.”

“I haven’t got a name for the genre,” Zayn said in a recent interview with Zach Sang. “It’s just me,” he noted.

“There’s no specific, strategic plan behind it … It’s just expression. Whatever came out, came out,” he added.

Of today’s sound, Zayn told Nylon, “People are in search of a little bit more depth from the lyrics. In the Top 40 charts, a lot of mainstream music feels a bit wishy-washy. The songs are f—ing fire. You know what I mean? They’re catchy. They’re playing on the radio and they do their job, but people are looking for a little bit more.”

Trailing behind Room Under the Stairs on this week’s poll is Billie Eilish’s new album Hit Me Hard and Soft, with just over 44% of the vote, followed by Saweetie’s “NANi,” Luke Combs’ “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma” and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie’s Better Off Alone.

See the final results of this week’s new music poll below.

Selfishly 'Sorry': Cassie's Lawyer Drags Diddy's 'Pathetic'
Apology After Video Showing Brutal 2016
US-ENTERTAINMENT-MUSIC-GRAMMY-CLIVE DAVIS

Diddy took “full responsibility” for the recently resurfaced footage of him beating his ex-girlfriend Cassie, but her attorneys denounce the apology as “pathetic desperation.”

Cassie (full name Cassandra Ventura) has not spoken out since the release of surveillance footage showing Diddy slamming, kicking, and dragging her in 2016. In addition to her husband Alex Fine, who immediately called out the horrific behavior, Cassie’s lawyers responded to Diddy’s latest admission.

According to TMZ on Sunday, Meredith Firetog echoed the still disgusted and unimpressed reactions calling Sean “Diddy” Combs’ apology too little, too late, and too focused on himself. She described the “rock bottom” confession about seeking help as a conveniently timed effort to save face “once his repeated denials were proven false.”

“Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt. When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday,” Firetog said.

This refers to the “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” statement that Aubrey O’Day and several other critics noted remained pinned to the top of Diddy’s Instagram, even after he posted the apology. The unequivocal denial of any wrongdoing accused women who came forward of “looking for a payday.”

The statement remained at the forefront of Diddy’s social media since December 2023. He posted it the same day that a fourth accuser alleged that Diddy sex trafficked and gang-raped her at the age of 17 with former Bad Boy president Harve Pierre.

As recently as five days prior, another post appeared to cryptically maintain Diddy’s innocence, stating that “time tells truth.” Firetog asserts that’s accurate, but the time for truth-telling only came as “pathetic desperation” from damning video evidence.

“That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words,” the partner at partner at Wigdor LLP concluded.

Diddy’s Apologized, Taking “Full Responsibility” For The 2016 Video Showing Him Beating Cassie

Source: JEWEL SAMAD / Getty

As BOSSIP previously reported, on Sunday morning Diddy said that he was “truly sorry” and “disgusted” with his actions in the 2016 video. While some commended Diddy’s claims that he “sought help,” others, like Aubrey, noted that he never once apologized directly to Cassie or for the harm he caused.

“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that. I was f**ked up — I hit rock bottom — but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now,” ” Diddy said in the Sunday morning video.

“I went and I sought out professional help. I got into going to therapy, going to rehab. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to be a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry,” the music mogul ended.

Following the release of the surveillance footage on Friday, Cassie’s attorneys responded with a statement.

“The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light,” Douglas H. Wigdor.

The rapper apologized for the actions captured on the video, which seems to corroborate details from Cassie’s 2023 abuse and sexual assault lawsuit. Yet, he did not address other allegations from the now-settled suit, which described Cassie as a “victim of sex trafficking.”

Diddy continues to maintain his innocence from all other accusations against him.

The Kendrick Vs. Drake Rap Battle

Lamar has remained in headlines throughout recent weeks due to his ongoing rap beef with Drake. The hip-hop stars have continuously engaged in a rap battle that led to the release of several diss tracks.

The dispute seemingly kicked off when Kendrick took shots at Drake on Metro Boomin and Future’s single, ‘Like That.’ The song is featured on Future and Metro’s joint album, ‘WE DON’T TRUST YOU.’ Drake then responded to Kendrick’s remarks with his own single, ‘Push Ups.’ Kendrick immediately clapped by releasing a 6-minute track titled, ‘Euphoria.’

Before Drake could even react to ‘Euphoria,’ Kendrick dropped another track titled, ‘6:16 in LA.’ Drake followed up with his ‘Taylor Made Freestyle,’ that used AI to include Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur’s voices. The back and forth continued as Drake released ‘Family Matters’ the same day.

Peter Thomas Apologizes For Previously Defending Diddy

Peter Thomas took to Instagram to issue an apology after previously defending Diddy against the accusations Cassie Ventura listed in her lawsuit.

The Real Housewives alum now categorizes the rapper’s actions as “deplorable.”

Thomas previously commented under Combs’ social media post on May 14 that read, “Time Tells Truth.” The reality star wrote, “Bro, I have been behind you since day one, no one from the block make it that far being stupid.”

However, he issued an apology video on May 18, denouncing Diddy’s actions. “There no apologies in me for what I said four days ago, as there’s no apology in me for what I’m saying right now,” Peter wrote in the video’s caption.

“I am not God, I am not Jesus Christ, I can cast judgment on anyone until evidence is provided, we all saw the video today, what Puff did was wrong on so many f*cking levels I don’t even know where to begin.”

“I CANT UNSEE WHAT I SAW TODAY.”

Thomas stated in the video that what Diddy did was “whack, it was weak, it was horrible. I never want to see any man treat any woman like that. I don’t care what the circumstances are. That should never happen.”

“It hurt me. I can’t unsee it. I look at him different. I’ve never seen that side of him” he added.

    Thomas Condemns Diddy’s Behavior

Peter explained that he supported Diddy a few days prior and “meant” what he said. However, after seeing the tape, he believes “he’s out of control.”

The businessman shared, “3 days later I see the tape myself. I think he’s weak. He’s out of control. I think if I’m worth that much and the woman wants go, I’ll let her go.”

“I’m not going to beat nobody and stomp on nobody and kick anybody in the face. That’s a deep hatred and rage…” Thomas said. He added that “God” allowed the tape to surface, stating, “Whatever is done in the dark is going to come to light.”

Thomas passionately stated, “I condemn that sh**. I got two daughters and seven sisters.”

Travis Kelce's Kelce Jam 2024: 6 Best Moments From Kansas
City's Biggest Music Festival

Who’s had a better year than Travis Kelce? Another Super Bowl ring, dating arguably the most popular musician on the planet in Taylor Swift and a new contract extension, life ain’t too bad for the Kansas City Chiefs superstar tight end.

With all of the victories, added exposure and soaring star power, Killa Trav also took his Kelce Jam festival to another level in its second rendition.

This weekend saw Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz and Diplo headlining Kelce Jam 2024 presented by Jim Beam about a half-hour outside Kansas City at the Azura Amphitheater.

Travis Kelce at Kelce Jam’s Backyard BBQ at the Azura Amphitheater in Bonner Springs, Kansas, on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Thousands entered through the gates rocking outfits celebrating Kelce and their beloved Chiefs while some opted to don another shade of red in support Swift, who was performing across the globe in Sweden on Saturday night (May 18) as part of her Eras Tour.

“Insane,” Kelce tells Billboard when putting the euphoria of his last year into words, but he’s got no plans to stop pushing either. “And I’m gonna try to top it this year.”

From the second Travis steps onto the festival grounds in the late afternoon, it’s all eyes on him. He turns into a superhero with a child-like exuberance that somehow never drains throughout the night with an energy level at 34 that could run circles around most college students.

Kelce has become of the NFL’s biggest stars and the rare non-quarterback that’s able to transcend pop-culture in a way that few before him have.

From the lively performances to the eclectic outfits and a brief red carpet chat with the three-time Super Bowl champion, here are the best moments from Kelce Jam 2024. Watch the live stream here.

Sabrina Carpenter Sizzles With ‘Espresso’ Performance on ‘SNL’ Season…
    05/19/2024

During his opening monologue on May 18, the Road House actor sang an impressive rendition of Boyz II Men‘s 1992 hit song “End of the Road” to mark the show’s season 49 finale.

Before breaking into song, Gyllenhaal poked fun at hosting the season 49 finale before the long-running NBC sketch comedy show celebrates its 50th season.

“When you think of historic television seasons, the first number that pops into your head is 49,” the actor said. “I mean, sure, you know, one more episode and I would have been hosting the premiere of the 50th season, but who cares?”

He added, “I know we’re all waiting for Season 50, but you can’t get to 50, without a little bit of 49. And we’re here at the finale, the end of the road.”

Gyllenhaal then crooned to the tune of “End of the Road” while jokingly listing off the celebrities SNL asked to host the season finale before him.

“You know, I was actually SNL‘s first choice to host the finale after a lot of people said no,” he said. “I guess they’re all holding out for the 50th but not me.”

“I’m the one who said, yeah,” the actor continued before rattling off names like Pedro Pascal, Zendaya and Ryan Gosling, who recently hosted the show.

Gyllenhaal was then joined by SNL cast members Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson, Punkie Johnson and Devon Walker, who sported black baseball hats and white sweaters with tan pants.

“We’ve come to the end of the road/ It’s the last episode/ It’s time to say goodbye to season 49/ You’ll be 50 soon,” they sang together.

Elsewhere during the episode, first-time musical guest Sabrina Carpenter performed her Billboard Hot 100 chart top 10 single “Espresso,” along with a medley of “Feather” and “Nonsense.” Check out the performances here.

Watch Gyllenhaal’s SNL monologue below. For those without cable, the broadcast streams on Peacock, which you can sign up for at the link here. Having a Peacock account also gives fans access to previous SNL episodes.

Lil Wayne Brings Out 2 Chainz for Riveting Kelce Jam 2024
Headlining Performance

Lil Wayne is a living legend, and he was feeling the love from the raucous Kansas crowd. Weezy headlined Travis Kelce’s Kelce Jam 2024 presented by Jim Beam on Saturday night (May 18) about a half-hour outside Kansas City across the Missouri state line.

Thousands filled the outdoor Azura Amphitheater on a sweltering day donning unique outfits celebrating their beloved Kansas City Chiefs as well as themed-fits surrounding the superstar tight end and his music icon girlfriend Taylor Swift, who was across the globe performing in Stockholm, Sweden, on her Eras Tour.

The New Orleans rap deity followed sets from 2 Chainz and Diplo while the crowd anxiously awaited the main attraction when Wayne popped out just shy of midnight CT to 2008’s Jay-Z-assisted “Mr. Carter,” bringing all of the fans to their feet.

Patrick Mahomes, 2 Chainz and Travis Kelce on stage during Kelce Jam at Azura Amphitheater on May 18, 2024 in Bonner Springs, Kansas.

As only Weezy could, he casually hit the stage smoking a blunt while rocking a Gucci hat, a black long-sleeve with baggy Gucci shorts and combat boots. “Trav, you brought ’em out tonight. One time for my motherf—-g n—a Travie, man,” Wayne said while taken aback by the staggering numbers in the audience, which seemed to be more than he anticipated. “God I didn’t even see ’em. Up top, make some f—–g noise, damn!”

The energy was taken to another level when Weezy brought out his Welcome 2 ColleGrove running mate and frequent collaborator 2 Chainz.

After running through “Rich As F–k,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end even joined the performance of “Duffle Bag Boy.” Kelce fittingly brought a Louis Vuitton duffle bag with him, but inside was the Vince Lombardi Trophy, which Chainz briefly rented from the three-time Super Bowl champ.

Earlier in the day, Kelce exclusively revealed to Billboard that “Duffle Bag Boy” was one of his all-time favorite songs and remains a pre-game playlist staple for him to this day before hitting the field.

“I’m a huge mixtape era guy,” Kelce says. “Wayne has been one of my favorites since high school, since the early 2000s. Since 2 Chainz is here, ‘Duffle Bag Boy’ is one of my favorite songs of all-time. I have it on my game day playlist and everything.”

Playaz Circle’s “Duffle Bag Boy” arrived in 2007 and reached No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Outside of the Tity Boi cameo, Lil Wayne kept the setlist similar to his Welcome to Tha Carter Tour from last year, which included fan-favorites like “Hustler Musik,” “I’m Goin In,” “Lollipop,” “Let the Beat Build,” “Blunt Blowin,” “Fireman,” “Mrs. Officer,” “We Be Steady Mobbin'” and “The Motto” before wrapping up with “A Milli.”

Weezy enjoyed himself so much throughout the hour-long set that he hopes to be performing at Kelce Jam 2025, if Travis will have him. “Trav, I don’t know if you do this every year. But make sure I’m on the list every f—–g year,” he pleaded with the Chiefs star.

As one fan bluntly put it while leaving the venue as Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” serenaded those left, “That was f—–g awesome.”

Watch a live stream of the entire festival on X. Lil Wayne’s set begins around the 4:11:00 mark.
